This Monday has gotten off to a difficult, two-weeks-til-spring-break, cold-wind-in-your-face kind of week. And so, some Monday inspiration. Though I'm not bitter at all about not winning the lottery (or Coach Redmon making me slide without pants), I do love this saying from the Texas Lottery: maybe it's your lucky day. What if it is? Find out for Helga? And also, there are only 9 days until spring break. Hoo-ray Monday.

No one understands..
..my costumes. So, we made a quick trip for some accessories to make Slinky more identifiable. This was after Alohomora was successfully complete! Thanks to everyone who came! And especially to those of you who signed my guest book! Everyone was appreciated. Spesh shoutout to Cane's and Bethany for the food. Oh and the costumes for Animation Domination were some of the best I've seen. Props to e'eryone.

Tri-Part Monster
Mandy and I drew it in Statistics. It's pretty legit. Mrs. Ferris was a big fan when we showed her.. (not really). But today I got some free hugs, hung some more art show stuff, played some softball, went to Ball's, and jaunted to Joann's and Lowe's to gather Sadies costume materials. Stay tuned to find out why hardware was necessary. TGIF.

What do we do to get ready?
Take team pictures in the outfield, that's what. We were flying around and getting ready to for our first game tomorrow! We also learned our team family tree and peppered, which will be helpful. And sunflower seeds were banned from the field.. which won't be that helpful. Maybe we should get some preshelled ones just for outside the dugout? In other news, Alohomora has been collaged, and tomorrow/today is Friday. Cause for celebration.

Rehearsal Rollercoaster
Sooo after going through the first round of rehearsing and critiques, we finalized our powerpoint and.. waited for the teachers to eat dinner. It was swell. That's Ted epitomizing the night. The group photo is approx 2 hours later; we're excited to have finished the second round and all together 5 hours of presenting. Fortunately afterward Ms. Hefley rewarded us with some delicious cupcakes.. but the real reward will be seeing YOU at the show Saturday at 6! Of course the art show propaganda extends to my blog, what would you expect? And FYI, today Ellie and I adventured to lost and found and uncovered three things that belonged to me! Hooray! PS my slides keep playing over and over in my mind.. alohomoritis.

Caught in the act!
Murphy in Senior Hall checkin' up on my blog! What an honor. There was mention of possible story in the Eagle Edition?? I'll be sure to let you guys know. Also, today I got to watch a half of the girls' lax game after practice! They were laxin' for sure. (I really don't know anything about lacrosse.) But they scored and ran around. Which I think is the goal.. Go Hannah!

Some relics.
We got our softball jackets back from last year and Catherine and Anna found these lovely memories in their pockets!! Catherine's had been washed.. Anna's had not. If you couldn't tell. See this video at 2:56 for said memories. Not to be forgotten from today: Ryan's inspiring chapel talk and a post-practice jaunt to Starbucks with Madi. Happy Monday!

Setting Up and Taking Down.
After being let into the Frank Building to finish hanging the art show, this lovely scene was there to greet us. We debated leaving it for an added artsy effect, but in the end Maddy retaped them with stronger adhesive. Art Show teaser #2. And here was my view at our end-of-season basketball banquet, the MVP herself, the inimitable Hannah Smith. Banana pudding and a slideshow = until next year, Eagle Pride.

A hang up.
Spent all day hanging Alohomora, the next art show, which you should come to next Saturday! I would have taken a picture, but I forgot amongst all of the measuring, leveling, wiring, marking, and all other hanging-related verbs you can think of. So, I guess you'll have to come see it! But when I came out to my car at the end of the day, I had this lovely sticker on my car. At least it's only a warning, but who knew they actually stick it on your window? Still figuring out how to get it off.. Maybe "alohomora" will do..

Impromptu talent show.
Juniors and Seniors had chapel in the Bray today, and Mr. Mro put StudVest in charge. So we had a talent show, naturally. It was chapel-y in that we related it to the parable of the talents, which Jesus himself told. (Could it be any more chapel-y?) This is Britani, who is so talented that this her third post, starting us off with an entertaining, though questionably chapel appropriate, performance from Chicago. The teachers gave her a standing O (not to be confused with a purple O).. so, success. Some other talented individuals like Ian and Pierce shared their gifts with us, too. And Schaffer, the only representative from his class, made up for the lack of spirit by sharing a poem he wrote with us. Basically we found a way to have a talent show during school, and Mr. Laba was pretty much ok with it. Student Vestry <3 student body.

Multiple meds talking.
Today I went to the DPS. And it was weird because I realized that I thought everyone else was weird, but they probably thought the same thing about me. I didn't win the lottery. I am sick. I wasn't able to give blood. But I did register to vote. I am going to sleep.
Addendum: Just reread this the next day.. I guess I'm a little bitter when I'm sick.

Hello, adulthood!
Today is my birthday, so in usual birthdayzilla fashion, I tricked out this post to make it fabulous. Hope it's cool. Well, this 18th birthday was def the craycray-est of my days of birth. Excerpts from the day: Free Starbucks on my birthday! I gave myself a birthday blessing. Mr. Lutken gave his Roger Bannister talk! I, along with almost the entirety of the basketball team, endured a sore throat/sinus infection. Mrs. Ferris decided to go all cra-zy math teacher on us. Softball practice was full of spontaneity. There were multiple run-ins with Coach Geier. Mom decided drivers license renewal was imperative. In an effort to use my 18-year-old status to my advantage, I bought a lottery ticket. The drawing is tomorrow! So, after today, I feel like I have successfully withstood my first adult test. Currently having some traditional Hansen family secret-recipe strawberry birthday cake. And I can't wait to take my birthday present trip to Nashville! Thanks to everyone for wishing me a happy birthday! I'll be sure to return the favor. Because birthdays are the best.

Valentine's Day?
Was that today? It was hard to notice with all the first day of softball/my birthday eve excitement!! As you can see, above are some reasons why softball is totally the cool sport. It's sassy-fabulous Anna, Sydney, Catherine, and that's Haley in her V-day themed outfit bringing up the rear. I did remember the holiday when I went to Walgreens and there were tons of last-minute card, candy, and flower buyers lining up at approx 6. Awk. But anyway, I'm was lovin' the 70 degree, throwing to first, great outdoors today. Countdown 'til adulthood: 1 day.

Some birthday festivities.
Happy stopping while the game was in play (wouldn't want to get hit by a puck!). In pre-celebration of my birthday coming up on Tuesday, we cheered on some hockey players with sayings like "Go hockey!" "What is this?" and "Hey William McGee!" Maybe the last one was just Happy. We are really big hockey fans. Juice boxes were consumed in the process. Later Ellie and I also enjoyed a showing of Gnomeo and Juliet, which I would recommend to any lawn creature/Shakespeare enthusiast like ourselves. Countdown 'til adulthood: 2 days.

Hazing and the like.
What's a day without a few denied proposals? Well, not today, that's for sure. At Chili's, Alejandro, who was too old for us, enjoyed our miming skills, angry snapping turtle impressions, and bilingualness, and grumpy Hannah got called and language check'd by Olivia.. who quickly learned never to language check Hannah. After some usual shoving of blindfolded teammates into the bathroom, and some typical scare tactics involving darkness, ugly headbands, water, and PopRocks, we made the uninitiated propose to some boys closer to their age than our waiter. Overall, I would call it a........... success [powerade]. Except that Olivia didn't get a yes from Ted..

Trekkin' to Houston
After being welcomed by an excited crowd consisting of Mrs. Sliva and Mrs. Cannata outside the bus, we paused for a quick team pic (even Coach Leak!). I'll miss these annual trips to Houston! But the eagle pride within me is super excited for our first game tomorrow on the road to our D2 championship! Teammates, if you're reading this, dream Michael Jordan dreams.

Gettin' prepped.
This is my first mobile post. Because this is the first time I was so busy doing laundry-related activities that I forgot to post. That's right, it's SPC time. I am bringing this blanket that Anisa, Blair, Laura, and Alice "monogrammed" for me last year to channel their skillz, and be Anisa's twin. I'm excited for the 6:30am practice and the weekend that will come after it! And that was not sarcastic. Eagle Pride from already-in-bed Kaitlyn!

Back to Reality
(Oh, there goes gravity). Segue'ing away from Eminem-related topics. I was feeling (this is a blog, so I talking about feelings seems appropriate) a tad apprehensive about facing the week after 6 whole days off. Because clearly every teacher's lesson plans are awry right now, so they're not very chill right now. Maybe even a little unchill. So, I went to physics at 8:03 (traffic) and took a quiz in Statistics, my $90 image got misprinted, et cetera et cetera complaints just like everyone else has. And I was feeling a little stressed. And I don't usually get stressed, so it was weird. Well, in comes the picture of the day. I finally make it to my locker, and my birthday sign was there to welcome me! Talk about welcoming. I love my birthday. And I've made it through 17 years and 348 days, so what's another thing to deal with? Really, what is it? I don't know the answer to that, but I do know that minor problems will never stop poppin' up around the corner, but neither will birthdays. So that's a pretty good tradeoff. Locker decorations save the day again.

(actually) Watching the Super Bowl.
I somehow always miss the funniest commercial/awk halftime moment. But this year I was determined not to. The next day at school when everyone's asking, "Remember that awesome commercial with the zippy suits and trickster squirrel and Betty White?" I would not have to stand in silence without reply, or feign laughter, another common response when you have no idea what is going on. So, after eagerly paying attention to all of the commercials, I clicked from my Shakespeare Project to facebook to see what the funniest/awesome moment of the year would be. First post I see: Wells Waller "only one funny super bowl commercial the whole night." Disappointment. Not only do I wonder what that one was, I wonder why this always happens to me. Both unclear. But at least I didn't miss out? I personally liked the nostalgia and enthusiasm of the above commercials. Pug attack and House Sitting were good too. Other notes: Xtina is a really good singer, and I can see how it would be easy to lose the words amidst all thhOOOooosSSeeeE RRRrruuUUnnNNSSs. And the Black Eyed Peas did an awesome job, in my opinion. The show was super cool, and they didn't take any breaks; it was like one big song. Pretty impressive. But I know this post is long and critique-y and you guys get antsy when that happens. So if you would like me to ramble further do ask. And, most importantly, go packers!

How much does a polar bear weigh?
Enough to break the ice! Eh, eh? Well, today (that's today) the literal and metaphorical ice was broken. Firstly, I threw a snowball at Dennis from about 50 feet away, and ended up throwing it into Dennis' passenger window, where it ended up hitting the driver of Dennis, and ended up being the best accidental snowball trajectory maybe ever. Pictured is the first breaking of ice. Sorry Catherine (but not really because you threw one at Freidrick later.. [not pictured]). Later at Snuffer's, though we did not run into any Super Bowl related celebrities, we basically did because Max, the guy from this post, and Catherine happened to have a cheese fry craving! Fate? Here marked the second, metaphorical, breaking of ice. It was nice to meet you! Good to know it's socially acceptable to ask for a picture of the day upon first impression. Thank you for taking it, Sarah. And Olivia, it was good to see you again. Also, the polar bear joke is up for grabs.

Not another post about snow.
PSYCH! Actually it is. I do realize that everytime it snows, I post about it. But when you live in Texas, it's a big deal. Everything is bigger in Texas, after all. "What makes today different?" you might be wondering. Well, on this fourth day of in-home seclusion, it actually snowed! Like over five inches! Which happened last year too, but on those days I was either in California or traveling to Houston for winter SPC, so it was an especially special day. That last clause may have been a little redundant. Today I made this snowman^ and named him Nolan, and, based on the hat, I'm sure you can guess his namesake (If you couldn't, I included a helpful link). I feel like today's snow was the denouement (NG shoutout!) to a week full of no-fun, unbuildable ice. Hoo-ray. And another note, they amazingly delivered the mail AGAIN. The post office is awesome. And I watched another mail-themed movie, PS I Love You, but I wasn't the biggest fan. I would probs watch it again though because I just really like mail. Anyway, this week had its good points, but I am def looking forward to the melting and human contact that will hopefully go along with 46 degrees tomorrow. When you are looking forward to three-hour basketball practice on a Saturday, that's when you know. Back to less-than-paragraph, about-more-than-mail posts soon! Pumped for reaching the melting point tomorrow! It's (definitely) time.

Snow Day #3: The Venture Outside
After almost three days at home, we had to make a trip for some necessities, which in my family's case means groceries and Starbucks. We also went to Sports Authority to get a new glove, but because they didn't have the one I wanted, we instead got some A&M gear. Now that I'm thinking about it, I guess this trip said a lot about Genie and I's priorities.. For documentational purposes, the roads were crazy to drive on, and I now understand the concept of black ice. Another occurance of the day: watched Dear John on Netflix and had a two-fold response: dissatisfied with the plot, but quite satisfied with the postal system. Mail is the best.
Addendum: So awesome that they still deliver mail in this weather!

Best state ever.
This is a picture of my dog, Harrison. He is a Maltese. He is wearing a Harley-Davidson shirt to keep warm while it is 20 degrees outside. I realize the irony of this. It is Snow Day #2. Some may scoff at the fact that approx 3" of sleet has virtually shut down the state of Texas with three snow days, rolling blackouts, and a flurry (like the snow vocab?) of all-day newscasts. But I am really appreciating our state's lack of ice experience. I feel like Texas has put productivity aside to say "Hey, what's another snow day?" While some states require students and employees alike to slog through multiple feet of snow and snow plowers to throw magnesium chloride (or whatever salt they use) on the streets all day, we Texans are totes chill. No doubt at my house we're getting stir crazy up in here (said Yolanda), but I've also had the time to do things that got pushed to the end of my to-do list (registered my Starbucks card and am on my way to gold status, thanks Weston), and to ignore things that got pushed to the end of my to-do list (names of the bones in the body, sorry I still don't know you). Plus I got to take pics of Harrison after mom decided to make him wear clothes. So go snow freakouts. Go dog photo shoots. Go Texas.

My old friend February.
Reading Eat, Love, Pray for Transformations in the great outdoors, and warming up after with some grilled cheese and tomato soup. Just more reasons why February is the best month of the year. Why else? Let's see, it's the snowiest month in Texas, Groundhog Day predictions, Black History Month, Valentine's Day, Winter SPC, the beginning of softball season, oh yes, my birthday, and not to mention that it's the stealth month, able to change from 28 days to 29 and back. And there's all of these other holidays too. Needless to say, I'm looking forward to this month, and today was a great start. And school, guess I'll see you Thursday?
